BASILICA CISTERN

The Basilica Cistern is a massive underground water reservoir built by Emperor Justinian I in the 6th century to meet the city’s water needs. Located near Hagia Sophia, the structure features vaulted ceilings supported by 336 marble columns and is especially famous for its Medusa-headed column bases.


Used as a water storage facility during the Ottoman era as well, the cistern now serves as a museum.

HAGIA SOPHIA GRAND MOSQUE

Located in the heart of Istanbul, Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque is one of the most magnificent landmarks in the history of world architecture. Originally built in 537 as the greatest cathedral of the Byzantine Empire, this monumental structure was converted into a mosque after Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror captured Istanbul in 1453.

SULTAN AHMED MOSQUE

Considered the “masterpiece of apprenticeship” by the legendary architect Mimar Sinan, the Süleymaniye Mosque has adorned Istanbul’s skyline since the 16th century as one of the grandest masterpieces of Ottoman architecture. Built in honor of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, this extraordinary structure is recognized worldwide as a cultural heritage site thanks to its remarkable acoustics, vast complex, and striking architectural design.
